Book Bug – Aberdeen Library

24th July 2020

Aberdeen City Libraries has now introduced an appointment based Click and Collect service. Staff will provide a selection of books based on a family’s reading preferences, to collect on appointment. This means that families with will once again be able to benefit from borrowing items including children’s picture books, early readers and dual language books from Aberdeen City Libraries. You can find out more about how to access this service by following the link https://www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/services/libraries-and-archives/click-and-collect. It is also not too late for families to participate in Aberdeen Reads, our summer reading challenge, which runs until 29 August 2020. Anybody can participate as an individual or as a group, so we encourage you to take part. Everyone who registers for Aberdeen Reads will be entered into a prize draw. Taking part in the Challenge will support children to develop language and literacy skills by encouraging all kinds of reading – instructions, recipes, picture books, sharing stories with younger siblings. Many of the suggested challenges can be easily carried out as part of a daily routine and it’s a great way to encourage the whole family to read together. Information on the Challenge and how to register is on our website www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/aberdeenreads, Finally, Aberdeen City Libraries continue to provide their digital reading offer. There is a wide range of ebooks, eaudio books, ecomics, emagazines and online resources suitable for all ages and abilities. We also continue to deliver regular Bookbug sessions via YouTube and Facebook.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts

24th July 2020

HUGE thanks for ALL of the really lovely cards and gifts that we have received as children have been leaving. This is extremely kind, generous and thoughtful and means a huge amount to all staff. I have to say that all of the emails, messages and cards have really brought a tear to my eye. The very kind words mean such a huge amount as it proves that we have achieved what we set out to do. We genuinely only want the very best for all of our children and families. HUGE thanks also to Mabel (Kayleigh’s lovely granny) who has been knitting us a range of nursery rhyme characters. We totally LOVE these Mabel. Thanks sooooo much! What will we be learning and thinking about over the next few weeks?

Staffing Update

24th July 2020

Huge congratulations go to Eibhlish, Natalie, Emma and Hannah who are all pregnant. We are totally delighted for you ladies and can’t wait to welcome some new Wellie babies. Remember stay fit, safe and healthy. Huge congratulations also goes to Ailsa and Kirsty who have both completed their SVQ in Social Services (Children and Young People) recently. Both are now fully qualified practitioners and a real asset to our team. This is a huge achievement and took many hours of work outwith nursery to complete. Congratulations girls. We are incredibly proud of you. Unfortunately Taylor, Daniela and Amy McTurk have left us over the past few months. Daniella will be starting a new university course soon. Taylor has been working on the frontline in an old folks home and Amy has started work as a nanny. Leanne has also left her substantive post with us but will still be with us for Kids Rock on a weekly basis. Leanne has chosen to focus on expanding her Kids Rock empire and we wish her huge success. So…….. if anyone is looking to book a party with a difference, Kids Rock is definitely the way to go! Good luck Leanne. Thank you all for all of your very hard work and loyalty to KingsWellies. We will miss you. As always, we have some Summer staff who will be helping us out once we get back up and running as normal. Eve, Zora, Eilidh, Nadia, Sarah and Lily will all be re-joining our gang for another Summer with us. We are also delighted to welcome Lucy McQueen, Natasha Ewen, Molly McIntosh and Campbell Oag to the team. Campbell will be joining us until October when he will be going off to study medicine at Oxford. He will be working with the children on the development of a variety of skills including piano, singing, French, keeping fit, drama, musical theatre, keeping safe and first aid. Campbell is a real all-rounder with experience as a Taekwondo instructor and Scouts young leader. We can’t wait to welcome both Campbell and Molly in the near future. Lucy and Natasha joined us before lockdown so many of you will have already met them.
